In WWCD each week we are provided with different agendas to work with but according to the requirements of mentee the program is kept flexible and can be altered.

Week 2:

Each week we receive email for Women Who Code Delhi regarding the agenda of the week. For this week it was

Week 2 will be majorly focusing on Internships & Placements. Please let your mentor know what kind of internships/placements are you looking forward to.

In our first week we created a list of various opportunities that existed (P.S.,you can check that out here.) and in week two we were asked to get the actual ones we are considering to pursue and work ahead with it.

We started with knowing about our mentor and what was her journey during her preparation period. Urvi shared with us various resources which helped her in cracking Microsoft IDC and how she prepared for it , also what all mistakes she made and how she got over it. She told us about Microsoft Codess program that was held in her college that helped her in grabbing the internship opportunity at Microsoft but unfortunately this program is limited to a few college.

We also talked about entering into various communities that are very helpful like MLSA, WTM etc...And how we can be a part of it.

For our Second Session, Urvi asked us about our updates and how we are doing in our preparation and she advised us to set a goal for each day that would help us in keeping a track upon the progress.

Apart from that we approached our mentor with giving us a guide to Resume as thats one topic we all are having different ideas in mind and what is the right way to put ahead ourself in front of the recruiter and to be taken as ROI.

Urvi shared her medium blog which she wrote during her Mentorship Program as mentee at Women Who Code,(you can access it here).

Also, she made a point to share with us her prior resume in which she didn’t had any particular internships or all.And how we can frame it with our society involvement and our POR(Position of Responsibility).

After that we also had a small discussion upon LikedIn profile’s about section. And what all points we can put ahead that could catch ones attention.

Few Points to mention that I Took back for Resume Building:

  • Mentioning Stats in your resume makes it shine.
  • Keeping Project vs Education at the top is a point of preference what you feel like makes you stand ahead.
  • Adding a small about you section helps recruiter to know you better.
  • Before going for an interview make sure to know about your projects very well.
  • Adding a professional picture could be a plus point.
  • Don’t underline anything that isn’t a clickable link or doing some actions cause it is considered rude.
  • Also adding CAPS ( Capitals) is considered rude.
  • A single column resume should be your preference.

For one of those who dont know Urvi Goel is our mentor in this Mentorship Program she is a pre-final year Computer Science student at IGDTUW. She was a 2020 summer intern at Microsoft IDC and has a returning offer from the same for 2021 summer.

At the end each mentee put up any questions they had regarding new platform or topics that we are not so confident about. And what else can we expect from the coming week.
